Carmen Dusmet Carrasco (b.1991, Gijón, Spain)
Lives and works in The Hague, Netherlands
As a time-based media artist, I work with video, audio, and text. My practice uses psychology and other fields of theoretical research to make sense of lived experience. Through exploring the nuances of uncertainty, I aim to understand how we generate meaning from our experiences, focusing on the fragmentation of our cognitive tools such as language, memory, and dreams. Ultimately, my work constantly asks what it means to be human. Part of my research process focuses on archiving and documenting unscripted life events through recordings and writing. I am interested in highlighting the individual political gaze that continuously witnesses its life and the world around it. My pool of research extends to the notion of the 'family' as both a personal and social construct, exploring the complexities of the intergenerational gap and its impact on our understanding of these constructs.
My work has been exhibited at Trixie (Den Haag), Cas-co (Leuven), Het Hem (Amsterdam), The Grey Space in the Middle (Den Haag), and screened at Filmhuis (Den Haag), Rialto (Amsterdam), The Hague Film Festival, OJO Film Festival Peru, 4th Multicultural Film Festival Toronto, Ficnova Bienal España, Empatheater Copenhagen.
